Excerpt from article written by Mabel (Fuller) Johnson (daughter of IdaBuchholz and Allen Fuller):
"My mother, Ida Mary Buchholtz, was born in 1878, near Berlin, inGermany. When she was six years old, in 1884, her parents came to theUnited States and settled near Gettysberg, South Dakota. She grew up ona farm with three sisters and a brother. In 1897, when she was nineteen, she married Gus Johnson. Three children were born to them: Roy in 1898,Blanche in 1900 and
Willie in 1902. In 1903 my mother, her husband, three little childrenand her sister Martha set out for Calgary, with cattle, horses and alltheir possessions. On the way her husband got appendicitis and died. Herparents-in-law, the Marleys, helped the two young girls build a houseand barn on a homestead south of Carbon. For two years they managed ontheir own, then the two sisters
married two brothers, Allen and Jesse Fuller. ... In 1930, my parentswere able to take a trip back to South Dakota and Minnesota, to visitfriends and relations. My mother was able to see her father who waseighty years old at the time."; CW6, page, 1-1-1.
