      Page 200-01 "As with millers, there was a traditional element ofdistrust of maltsters, who soaked and toasted barley to turn into maltfor brewing. Many households did their own brewing and before thearrival of coffee and tea, beer was the normal family beverage. Somemaltsters cut corners on the processes and others were not aboveadulterating their malt. Either way, their shortcomings would be notedand resented throughout the community, especially as maltsters ofterbecame wealthy."
